1993

Young Mothers for Young Women (YMYW) is established. It is the first support service for young parenting mothers and the beginning of Micah Projects’ family support program.


1994

A steering committee is formed to establish Project Micah. Foundation members are from St Mary’s Community.

1995

After 2 years of community consultation Project Micah Inc. is formed as a not-for-profit incorporated association.

1996

First Christmas Hampers for families. Now an annual event.

1997

Community consultation undertaken in response to a request from Disability Services to house and support women with severe disability.

Individual support packages taken up leading to the development of ROMIGA (named for Roberta, Michelle and Geraldine) and the Social Inclusion Program.

1997

Esther Trust is formed to support ex-residents from Queensland church and state-run institutions.

Pilot program undertaken to support people in inner-city boarding houses.

1998

Community Access and Support Service (CASS): the first outreach van to people sleeping rough and intoxicated on the streets.

Funding is received from Department of Justice Victims of Crime Program to support people abused in institutions as children.

1998

First government funding for Project Esther (est. 1994).

Forde Inquiry announced by Hon Anna Bligh MP.

Project Micah supports people to submit and present to the Inquiry.

2000

Project Micah officially changes name to Micah Projects Inc.

Young Mothers for Young Women (YMYW) Drop-in Day begins.

2001

Micah Inner-City Services (MICs) begins at St Mary’s House.

Community Access and Support Service (CASS) becomes 6 night/7 day service.

2001

Micah Projects supports Forgotten Australians in preparing a submission for a Senate Inquiry.

2001

Historical Abuse Network (HAN) is established.

Roberta, Michelle and Geraldine (ROMIGA), move into their home.

2001

Community Linking Program (now Resident Support Program) begins supporting people living in boarding houses and privately owned hostels.

2002

Opening of Esther Centre: a drop-in centre for people who experienced abuse as children in out-of-home care.

Campbell’s Club starts as an integral part of Micah Projects' Resident Support Program.

Collaboration between Young Mothers for Young Women (YMYW) and the Brisbane Domestic Violence Resource Centre on the impact of Domestic Violence on young women and families.

Memorandum of Understanding with Brisbane Council of Elders is signed.

Cross-cultural training introduced for all Micah Projects’ staff with Indigenous Trainer Tom Kirk.

Redress Scheme for people who experienced abuse and neglect in Queensland institutions and out-of-home care as children. After 8 years of advocacy by Historical Abuse Network (HAN).

Homeless to Home (H2H) Family Homelessness National Demonstration Project Evaluation is released.

Mater Health Services provides post-natal services for young parenting families within the Young Mothers for Young Women (YMYW) program.

White Paper on homelessness reconfigures programs in Australia and leads to the National Partnership Agreement on Homelessness (NPAH).

BCG Nurse Integration program begins in partnership with Mater Health Services and St Vincent’s Private Hospital, Brisbane.

Micah Projects becomes a member of the Partners in Recovery consortium (Metro South) to support people with mental illness, especially those who are homeless.

2013

Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) is adopted. RAP Committee supports annual events such as Close the Gap and Sorry Day.

Lotus Place opens in Townsville and Rockhampton.
